Over twenty-five years of teaching students
I have taught and tutored middle school, high school, college, and adult students in a range of subjects: reading, writing, English, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), history, and social sciences; introductory sciences, algebra, and geometry, and test preparation including GED and ACT/SAT prep. Many of my former students are Ivy League school attendees, ADD/ADHD students, immigrant students, former inmates, and class presidents. Students improve their grades, confidence, and knowledge base using academic coaching strategies.
ACT/SAT Prep
Students complete homework prior to each session so we can target individual strengths and weaknesses as well as develop strategies for time management if necessary. Students typically need to brush-up grammar rules such as commas, semi-colons, and tense agreement, reading strategies such as context clues, and geometry, algebra, and trigonometry formulas and equations. We discuss general test-taking strategies and focus heavily on ACT/SAT specific strategies. For all of my students, I work to minimize test anxiety through earned positive reinforcement. I make sure students recognize the progress they are making by: improving their scores, managing their time effectively, and gaining confidence that they not only know the material being tested, but also the test itself.
